Jay Mankita will perform at this year’s Rumpus!
From jaymankita.com:
The strength and clarity of Jay’s unique style of guitar playing provides a rich rhythmic ground for his dynamic and original melodies and lyrics. He is as well known for his funny songs like ‘From a Dog’s Stance’, ‘Tracy At The Bat’, and ‘The Cliche Song’ as he is for songs like ‘Living Planet’, ‘Morning Face’, and ‘Bread Alone’. His topical songs such as ‘They Lied’ have been internet hits and audience favorites, appealing to listeners on both sides of. and beyond the political aisle.
Jay has shared the stage, opened for, performed with, and recorded with many well known artists, including: Pete Seeger, David Bromberg, Leon Russell, Tom Paxton, Paul Winter, and dozens of others. He drives a touring van powered by recycled vegetable oil, which he enjoys showing after every show. He has recorded 6 CDs, his favorite color is blue, and he is currently living in Western Massachusetts.
Carrie Ferguson and The Cherry Street Band are returning, too!
From carriefergusonmusic.com:
Carrie celebrated the release of her first full-length solo CD, Riding On the Back of The Wind, in February 2010 with a sold out show at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, MA. Recorded in Easthampton, MA with Scot Coar at Sow’s Ear Studios, Riding On The Back of The Wind is a catchy, exuberant collection of melodic story pop bursting with Ferguson’s trademark joyful melancholy and featuring Pioneer Valley musicians Jim Henry on guitar, mandolin and dobro, J.J. O’Connell on drums, Mark Schwaber on bass, and Emily Breines on violin.
The Cherry Street Band uses a shifting palette of organ, piano, violin, mandolin, acoustic guitar, bass, drums, percussion and voices to create soaring, high-energy folk pop with haunting melodies, exquisite harmonies, and smart, beautiful lyrics. Their live shows are jubilant affairs, full of humor and warmth, featuring original songs (with a few covers thrown in) ranging from ethereal ballads to rootsy folk-rock and ambient pop.
